Many factors determin the performance of organic devices. In a bulk-heterojunction orgnic solar cell, factors include: electronic structure of donor and acceptor materials, electronic structure alignment at donor/acceptor and active layer/electrode interfaces, donor/acceptor interface interdiffusion or roughness, composition gradients and wetting near electrode interfaces, bulk morphology, and bulk transport properties of donor and acceptors.

Interfaces play a critical role in organic light emitting diodes. By correlating the interfacial roughness/width to devices performance, a baseline is established for understanding the role of interfacial structure in determining the performance of conjugated polyelectrolyte based polymer light emitting diodes.
